GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Gainesville Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a shooting that left one man dead and another injured following a holiday celebration Friday night.
Officers on patrol in the Midland area shortly after 10 p.m., just after the conclusion of the city’s First Friday Concert, found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. While officers were providing life-saving aid, they learned of a second shooting victim nearby.
The first victim was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities have not yet released his identity pending notification of next of kin. The second victim was also transported to the hospital. Police said that person’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Investigators are urging anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting to come forward with information.
“With certainty, people in the area at the time of the shooting have information that can assist with the case,” Gainesville Police said in a statement.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or submit a tip through the Gainesville Police Department’s online tip portal at Submit a Tip. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
