Buena Vista appoints first female police chief

The City of Buena Vista is proud to announce a new era in public safety and a historic milestone for our community. The Mayor and City Council have officially appointed Sharon Williams as the Chief of Police for the Buena Vista Police Department.

The appointment marks a historic first for the city. Chief Williams becomes the first female to ever hold the office of Chief of Police in Buena Vista, Georgia. Her appointment marks a turning point for our city—one built on experience, resilience, and a deep-rooted commitment to our citizens.

Chief Williams didn’t just accept this role; she earned it. Since March 24th, she has stood the watch tirelessly—often alone—patrolling our streets, protecting our children, and rebuilding our department from the ground up. Her leadership has already delivered a “Dream Team” of veteran officers, bringing over 40 years of combined law enforcement experience back to our streets.

With the “Four Pillars” of veteran talent now in place, the Buena Vista Police Department is officially 10-8 (On Duty) and stronger than ever.
