Jury convicts Habersham man tied to gang investigation on drug, DUI charges

Quillan Leshun Samuels was convicted April 16 in Habersham County Superior Court on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl and driving under the influence of drugs.

CLARKESVILLE — A Habersham County jury has convicted a man previously tied to a broader gang-related investigation in the county on drug and DUI charges, according to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.

Quillan Leshun Samuels, 27, was found guilty April 16 following a three-day trial in Habersham County Superior Court. The case was heard before Judge Carlton H. Jones III, with prosecutors Rosanna M. Szabo and Meredith Davis representing the state.

Samuels was convicted on two counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as driving under the influence of drugs, District Attorney George Christian said.

The charges stem from a Feb. 18, 2023, traffic stop on Ga. 365, when investigators said Samuels was driving under the influence of tetrahydrocannabinol and methamphetamine.

During the stop, officers discovered approximately 2.9 grams of methamphetamine and 3.6 grams of fentanyl hidden under the driver’s seat.

Authorities also recovered a digital scale with white powder residue from the center console and $535 in cash from Samuels’ pocket, evidence prosecutors argued was consistent with drug distribution.

The case is connected to a wider gang investigation in Habersham County that led to multiple arrests in 2024, as previously reported by Now Georgia. That investigation focused on suspected drug activity and trafficking operations in the region.

Samuels is scheduled to be sentenced May 26.
