CLEVELAND, Ga. — A barn and a nearby vehicle were destroyed in a Saturday afternoon fire off Fuller Drive, but firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to nearby buildings, according to White County Public Safety.

White County Fire Services responded shortly after noon March 14 to a reported structure fire behind Mossy Creek Baptist Church off Georgia Highway 254, Public Information Officer Bryce Barrett said.

When crews arrived, they found a barn fully involved in flames, with a vehicle also burning nearby and a brush fire beginning to spread into the surrounding area.

Firefighters quickly began suppression operations while also working to protect nearby structures. An adjacent barn, a residence and a tractor were located close to the fire, prompting crews to prioritize protecting those exposures while bringing the main blaze under control, Barrett said.

The fire destroyed the primary barn and the vehicle, but firefighters successfully prevented the flames from spreading to the nearby home and other structures.

The brush fire burned about one acre before crews contained it.

White County EMS evaluated one person at the scene, but no injuries were reported.

Firefighters remained on scene through the afternoon extinguishing hot spots and ensuring the fire was fully contained before clearing the incident.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined, Barrett said.
