Habersham EMC crews have successfully restored electricity to some 2,000 members left in the dark by a power outage Thursday night.

The local cooperative reported the outage around 7:17 p.m. on October 5.

The outage was caused by an equipment malfunction at the Clarkesville Primary substation. HEMC crews tell Now Habersham they suspect an animal caused the malfunction.

At the height of the outage, over 14% of the county’s HEMC members were without electricity. Full service was restored by 9 p.m.
