CLEVELAND, Ga. — White County commissioners approved applying for a $1.25 million state grant to add 10 miles of hiking and biking trails at Yonah Preserve Recreation Area.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Georgia Outdoor Stewardship grant would help expand the preserve’s existing 11-mile trail network.
Clark Neal, with the Northeast Georgia Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association, has been working with the county on the trails. He told commissioners the proposed project would also include new outdoor education opportunities and a floating dock on Yonah Preserve Lake.
If the grant is awarded, the county would provide $306,000 in hotel-motel tax revenue as matching funds.
