Winter returns Sunday across Northeast Georgia

It’s been very warm, but winter lurks just a day away.

Showers are possibly early Saturday, but much like Friday it appears we will stay dry with generally calm winds through the afternoon. Highs will be much cooler than Friday but still plenty warm in the low/mid-60s ahead of an approaching front. More widespread showers are likely overnight with much colder air and very windy conditions by daybreak Sunday. Total rainfall of 1/4-1/2″ is expected in total through Sunday morning.

Sunday will see the return of winter across the region with highs only in the mid/upper-40s and winds gusting at 30-35 m.p.h. This will be a shock to the system with our recent heat wave. Overnight temperatures will plummet to the low/mid-20s and recover only to the 30s on Monday. This will be a nearly 40º temperature drop from Friday to Monday, truly impressive.

Overnight lows will be the coldest in weeks on Monday night with mid/upper-10s likely. Highs will quickly recover on Tuesday to the low-50s then back to near 60º by Wednesday.
