Troup County officials are warning of smoke across the area from South Georgia wildfires. The official Troup County Government Facebook page noted it’s the result of current weather conditions across the state.
“Although these fires are not in our immediate area, shifting wind patterns can carry smoke particles many miles, impacting air quality and visibility here at home. Current weather conditions, including low relative humidity and dry air, contribute to wildfire activity and smoke spread,” Troup County Government posted.
While there is no direct threat to Troup County at this time, we ask everyone to use caution, refrain from outdoor burning, and remain aware of conditions.
“With drought conditions worsening across the state and no meaningful rainfall in sight, it doesn’t take much for a spark to turn into a wildfire—and for that fire to spread fast,” according to the Georgia Forestry Commission.
