TOCCOA, Ga. — A Toccoa man was arrested Wednesday and charged with trafficking methamphetamine following a traffic stop and subsequent search of a residence in Stephens County, authorities said.
According to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, narcotics investigators received information earlier this month that David Adam Wilhite, 41, was allegedly involved in the distribution of methamphetamine in and around Stephens County.
Investigators launched an inquiry and learned Wilhite was on felony probation for multiple offenses, including possession of methamphetamine. Authorities said he was also subject to a Fourth Amendment waiver as a condition of his probation.
At approximately 9:20 p.m. on June 17, deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Davis Road for multiple traffic violations. Wilhite was identified as the driver.
During the stop, deputies searched the vehicle and located approximately 2.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine beneath the driver’s seat, according to the sheriff’s office. Wilhite was arrested and taken to the Stephens County Detention Center.
Narcotics investigators continued the investigation by searching a nearby residence linked to Wilhite. During the search, investigators discovered a safe containing approximately 55.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine, along with other evidence they said indicated involvement in the distribution of illegal narcotics.
Wilhite was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of methamphetamine.
A Stephens County magistrate judge denied bond.
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to reducing the flow of illegal narcotics in the county and encourages anyone with information about drug distribution to contact its Criminal Investigation Division tip line.
