CLEVELAND — On April 16, TMU’s Walpot School of Education held its annual Teacher Pinning Ceremony, a tradition marking the beginning of a teaching career and a commitment to the profession.
During the event, TMU welcomed 20 new students into the education program, each stepping forward with a shared calling to serve, lead and inspire through investing in students.
“The pinning ceremony symbolizes more than entry into a program; it represents a dedication to the profession of teaching and the responsibility that comes with shaping future generations,” said Taylor Gilleland, chair of the School of Education. “Surrounded by faculty, family and peers, our newest cohort was recognized for their decision to pursue a path grounded in service, integrity and lifelong learning. We are honored to walk alongside these students as they begin their journey.”
The class also heard from recent graduate Jake Lee, who encouraged students by noting the work would be challenging but rewarding as they invest in the lives of others.
TMU officials said the Class of 2028 reflects a strong sense of purpose and confidence in the future of education, with expectations that the group will make an impact both in the classroom and in their communities.
This year’s inductees include Kirsten Acevedo, Anna Barnette, Anna Bennett, Andrea Bronniman, Peyton Brooks, Reagan Chizek, Sicily Cooper, Mollee Guin, Dakota Mincey, Morgan Morreale and Caroline Penrod in elementary education; Preston Kent and Kade Nicholson in middle grades education (ELA/social studies); Jonathan Adair, Elizabeth Beam, Lillian Colquitt and Mariah Yeh in middle grades education (mathematics/science); and Blake Bishop, Joanna Hammack and Anna Kaye Walter in music education.
