HART COUNTY, Ga. — A high-speed chase Monday afternoon ended with the arrest of an Elberton man, marking at least the third vehicle pursuit involving Hart County deputies in as many days.
The latest incident happened around 4:44 p.m. on March 30, when Hart County deputies were patrolling near Bowersville Highway and Lankford Road. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies spotted a black Chevrolet Camaro driven by a man believed to be wanted by the Royston Police Department for felony fleeing and eluding and other traffic violations.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, heading toward Hartwell on Bowersville Highway, the sheriff’s office said. A pursuit was initiated, with additional deputies responding to assist.
Authorities deployed spike strips at the intersection of Bowersville Highway and Lavonia Highway, successfully deflating two of the vehicle’s tires. The Camaro continued a short distance before coming to a stop near the trestle bridge on Bowersville Highway.
The driver, identified as 33-year-old Chance Hyshonee Reed of Elberton, was taken into custody without further incident.
Reed faces multiple charges, including three counts of felony fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, speeding in excess of 110 miles per hour, passing in a no passing zone, suspended registration, no insurance, driving while license suspended, and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.
“Great work by our deputies and investigators for bringing this pursuit to an end safely,” Sheriff Chris Carroll said.
The incident remains under investigation.
This marks the third time in as many days that Hart County deputies have been involved in a vehicle pursuit. On March 28, they issued a lookout for a motorcycle driver who fled in another vehicle after wrecking his bike in a Walmart shopping center. The suspects have since been arrested.
That same evening, another driver was arrested and charged with DUI after deputies say he led them on a chase after fleeing from an attempted traffic stop.
