Search continues for drowning victim on Lake Hartwell

HART COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities continued searching Sunday for a man believed to have drowned on Lake Hartwell near the Mega Ramp area off Ridge Road.

According to the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, Hart County 911 received a call shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday, June 20, reporting a possible drowning on the lake.

Deputies responded alongside personnel from Hart County EMS, Hart County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Elbert County EMA also joined the search effort.

Emergency crews spent hours searching the area Saturday evening using multiple boats equipped with sonar technology. The search involved vessels from the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, Hart County EMA, Elbert County EMA, and Georgia DNR.

Authorities resumed search operations Sunday morning, continuing to use boat-mounted sonar and other resources in an effort to locate the victim.

Officials are asking boaters and others on the water near the Mega Ramp to use caution and stay clear of emergency vessels and active search areas to allow crews to work safely and effectively.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The search remains ongoing.
