Weekend fire heavily damages Baldwin home

Fire heavily damaged a home in Baldwin on Saturday.

Habersham County E-911 dispatched firefighters to the scene at 186 Huntington Drive shortly before 3 p.m. on Nov. 30. Initial reports indicate a resident returned home to see flames coming from the kitchen area and called 911.

Baldwin Assistant Fire Chief Shaun Benfield said, “There was a lot of damage done to the residence. We had to open up the sheetrock. It is possibly a total loss, but investigators are still working on the cause.”

Emergency vehicles responding to the call temporarily blocked traffic on Airport Road near Huntington Drive. The road reopened several hours later.

No injuries were reported.
