
A drowning victim at Lake Martin, AL has been identified as Jayden Barreto according to the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office. Carol Robinson at AL.com reports the 24-year-old Barreto was from the Columbus area.
Barreto jumped off Chimney Rock, a popular tourist spot on Lake Martin Wednesday and never resurfaced. The University of Georgia graduate was at the lake celebrating with other college graduates at the time of the incident according to multiple reports.
Divers discovered Barreto’s body about 50 feet underwater after several hours of searching. Tributes to Barreto have started to pour in on social media with one describing him as “a smart; kind, and wonderful young man. He was a graduate of The University of Georgia and excelled in school and his profession.” Â Barreto graduated with two bachelor’s degrees, one in business administration and one in psychology.
The 24-year-old’s body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
