Rasmus baseball dynasty leads Phenix City back to Little League World Series

The Phenix City All-Stars are headed back to the Little League World Series. The team from Alabama topped Tennessee 4-0 after a three-and-a-half-hour rain delay Tuesday night. Kinley Rasmus pitched six scoreless innings to clinch the Southeast Regional Championship in Warner Robins, GA.

Kinley is part of the Rasmus baseball dynasty as the daughter of Cory Rasmus who played for Phenix City in the LLWS nearly three decades ago with her uncle Colby Rasmus. Her grandfather is the former coach, Tony Rasmus. Tony’s grandson Ryker Rasmus also plays on the current 12U All-Star team coached by his youngest son Case Rasmus. Phenix City lost the world title to Japan in 1999. Coach Case Rasmus told Georgia Alabama Sports Live “we’re gonna finish the job this time though.”

Celebrations erupted across the Chattahoochee Valley after the victory. Alabama State Representative Chris Blackshear congratulated the team on social media. “Let’s party like it’s 1999! Williamsport here comes the Phenix City 12U Little League All-Star Team for the first time in 27 years!”

Phenix City will play in Game 2 of the LLWS against the Northwest champion at 3 pm on Wednesday, August 19th in Williamsport, Pennsylvania according to USA Today. The game will be televised live on ESPN.
