RABUN COUNTY, Ga. — Rabun County Schools has named longtime educator and administrator Kelsey Thompson as the next principal of Rabun County High School, the system announced.

Thompson, currently an assistant principal at the high school, will succeed Justin Spillers, who is moving into a new role as assistant superintendent of secondary student achievement and operations.

A Rabun County High School graduate, Thompson has spent her career in the local system. She previously taught at both Rabun County Middle School and Rabun County High School before serving as an assistant principal at Rabun County Elementary School. She has been an assistant principal at the high school for the past six years.

Thompson holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Georgia, a master’s degree from Columbus State University and an educational specialist degree from Valdosta State University.

“I have full confidence that Mrs. Thompson will continue to build upon the success that RCHS has had under Mr. Spillers’ leadership, and she will work to deliver high-quality instruction and opportunities for the students,” Rabun County Schools Superintendent Steven Cole said.

Thompson said she is excited to continue the school’s tradition of excellence.

She will officially begin her new role July 1, ahead of the 2026-27 school year.
