Athens-Clarke County police have made an arrest in last November’s shooting of a man near the downtown district in Athens.
On January 24, police took into custody Ronnie Smith, 23, of Acworth, for his alleged involvement in the November 6, 2022, shooting near Clayton and Jackson streets. Officers charged Smith with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A 20-year-old man was wounded in the early morning shooting. Police responded to the scene after hearing gunshots in the area.
