DEMOREST, Ga. — Classical music will fill the Piedmont University Chapel later this month as some of the university’s accomplished musicians come together for an afternoon of chamber music.

The community is invited to a free concert by the Piedmont University Camerata at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30. The performance will feature Piedmont’s Artists-in-Residence Heather Baird-Strachan and Rachael Fischer on violin, Scott Garrett on viola, Ismail Akbar on cello and Jeri-Mae G. Astolfi on piano.

The program will take listeners across different periods and styles of classical music with chamber works by Tommaso Giordani, Germaine Tailleferre and Robert Schumann. Adding context to the afternoon’s selections will be concert host Bob Glass, Piedmont’s Dean of Libraries and University Librarian, who will narrate program notes and offer listeners insight into the music being performed.

The Camerata brings together Piedmont faculty artists in the intimate setting chamber music was designed for, giving audiences an opportunity to experience the interplay among individual musicians and instruments.

Admission to the Aug. 30 concert is free and open to the public. Donations supporting Piedmont University’s music program will be accepted at the door. The concert will be held at the Piedmont University Chapel, 992 Central Ave. in Demorest.
