FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ga. — A 19-year-old Carnesville woman was killed and two children were seriously injured in a head-on crash Monday afternoon in Franklin County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The crash happened around 4:35 p.m. on May 4 on Stone Bridge Road near Andrews Road.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2018 Dodge Challenger traveling west crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound 2010 Ford Fusion head-on in the eastbound lane, troopers said.
The Fusion driver, Zoie Marie Atkinson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two children riding in the back seat of the Fusion suffered serious injuries. A 10-year-old girl was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, while an 8-year-old boy was transported by Franklin County EMS to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the Challenger, 66-year-old Debra Ann Smith of Carnesville, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Troop B Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is assisting with the investigation. Troopers said no driver impairment is suspected, and charges against Smith are pending.
