Fire destroyed a mobile home in Mt. Airy early Saturday, forcing eight people, including six children, from the home.

At 5:01 a.m., Habersham County E-911 received a call from occupants at 900 Chimney Rise Road stating their home was on fire and that everyone was out. Multiple fire units and EMS arrived on the scene at 5:15 a.m.

Units arrived to find a single-wide mobile home 75% engulfed in flames, according to Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore.

Crews started a defensive attack while shuttling water from the closest hydrant roughly two miles away. Firefighters had the fire under control within an hour. They remained on scene until 8:38 a.m. putting out hot spots.

According to Moore, no injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the displaced residents.
