TOCCOA, Ga. — A 51-year-old Martin woman faces drug trafficking charges following a months-long investigation.
Tameka Williams was arrested Monday, Sept. 7, near North Red Hollow Road. She is charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of methamphetamine.
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Williams in June for alleged methamphetamine trafficking in Stephens and surrounding counties.
Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) deputies reportedly observed Williams leaving her residence around 1 p.m. Monday and stopped her after seeing her commit a traffic violation. As Williams exited her pickup truck, deputies allegedly saw her trying to conceal a bag containing a white, crystal-like substance.
Authorities said Williams then removed five additional bags of suspected methamphetamine from her person. Each bag weighed approximately one ounce and appeared to be packaged for sale.
A field test indicated the substance was methamphetamine. Deputies seized approximately six ounces of the suspected drug and $1,522 from the vehicle.
Williams was booked into the Stephens County Detention Center.
Sheriff Rusty Fulbright said his office is “committed to curbing the flow of illegal drug activity in Stephens County.” He commended the CSU deputies and Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office agents for their work on the case.
“We are fostering a safer, stronger Stephens by getting another individual off the streets thanks to their diligence,” Fulbright said.
