FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ga. — Two people face charges after a driver fled a traffic stop on Interstate 85 and suspected drugs and a firearm were thrown from the vehicle, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy attempted to stop a Chevrolet Tahoe on Oct. 1, but the driver refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit. The chase ended on Baty Road after a deputy used a Precision Immobilization Technique, or PIT maneuver.
The sheriff’s office posted a video showing the pursuit and subsequent arrests. A caption accompanying the footage read, “Only smart thing he has done,” in clear reference to the driver, who was identified as Colin Bryant.
Both Bryant and his passenger, Carley Austin, were taken into custody.
Authorities said they recovered suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, THC products, firearms, ammunition, digital scales, and numerous baggies.
Bryant faces charges including fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, possession with intent to distribute, firearm-related offenses, tampering with evidence, DUI, reckless driving, and multiple traffic violations.
Austin faces charges including possession with intent to distribute and tampering with evidence.
