CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — Habersham County residents will have another opportunity to weigh in on proposed updates to the county’s Unified Development Ordinance next month, as commissioners schedule a second community town hall following a well-attended first session.

The Habersham County Board of Commissioners announced the meeting will be held June 4 at 6 p.m. at the Ruby C. Fulbright Aquatic Center, 120 Paul Franklin Road in Clarkesville.

The session comes as county leaders continue refining a wide-ranging update to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), a governing document that regulates land use, development standards, and growth planning across Habersham County. Officials have said the revisions are intended to balance growth pressures with rural character, infrastructure capacity, and environmental protections.

The last town hall meeting held April 14 on the proposed changes drew a packed crowd, with residents filling the aquatic center to voice concerns and ask questions about issues ranging from housing density and zoning flexibility to property rights and future development impacts.

County officials have described the UDO process as ongoing and iterative, noting that public feedback has already prompted adjustments to earlier drafts. One recent update included removing a proposed derelict vehicle ordinance following community input, while other sections — including rules affecting larger-scale developments such as data centers — remain under review.

The county has also emphasized that the ordinance will not move forward without additional public engagement. Leaders previously delayed action on the broader code overhaul to allow more time for discussion and revision, underscoring that no final vote will be taken until residents have had multiple opportunities to participate.

The June 4 town hall is expected to follow a similar format to the first meeting, with county staff presenting updates and residents able to ask questions and offer comments directly to officials.

The UDO draft and supporting materials remain available for public review on the county’s website.

Commissioners have encouraged residents — including those who attended the first meeting — to return for the second session as revisions continue and the county moves closer to a final version of the development code.

The aquatic center meeting is open to the public.
