MURRAYVILLE, Ga. — A 28-year-old Gainesville woman died Friday after her vehicle ran off the road in North Hall County and struck two trees, authorities said.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as Portia B. Haynes.
Patrol deputies responded to the 6100 block of Yellow Creek Road just before 12:20 p.m. Aug. 14. When they arrived, they found Haynes’ vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
Witnesses had pulled Haynes from the vehicle before deputies arrived. She was unresponsive and suffering from critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene moments later, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office Accident Investigation Unit determined Haynes was traveling west on Yellow Creek Road at a high rate of speed when her vehicle left the roadway and struck two trees.
Investigators said evidence at the scene indicated Haynes was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Her body was taken to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Yellow Creek Road was closed for approximately two hours while investigators worked the scene and crews cleared the roadway.
