Fort Benning graduate reported missing in Columbus

Update: Kiernon Swann has been located in good condition.

A Fort Benning graduate from basic training has been reported missing in Columbus. According to the Columbus Police Department Kiernon Swann was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and ball cap in the 2800 block of Airport Thruway Sunday May 10, 2026, at 7 am. Swann never returned to post.

The missing soldier’s mother Jamie Swann issued a heartfelt plea for help on Facebook saying her son’s disappearance is completely out of character. “He graduated basic training on Friday May 8th; he was one of 4 individuals to graduate with a promotion in his squad. Even his Captain believes he involuntarily did not return by 8 p.m. – 05/10/26. He is bright, smart, dedicated and very motivated. No he did not go AWOL. Not even in Kiernon’s nature to quit something he truly believes in especially with such a promotion. Something is not right!!” Jamie Swann posted.
