TOCCOA, Ga. — Chandler Smith was already wanted on forgery and theft warrants when Stephens County deputies found him Monday inside a Toccoa convenience store. Now, he’s in jail facing drug and counterfeit charges, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Suppression Unit arrested the 25-year-old Toccoa man around 12:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at a store on Big A Road. During a search after his arrest, they found suspected methamphetamine, unidentified pills, drug-related items, and eight suspected counterfeit $100 bills, according to sheriff’s office spokesperson Rebekah Smith.
Deputies also found a green substance they said tested positive for fentanyl in a field test.
Smith was booked at the Stephens County Detention Center.
In addition to the original charges, Smith is now charged with first-degree forgery, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, possession and use of drug-related objects, and four counts of keeping prescription drugs outside their original containers.
On Sept. 22, he remained in jail pending a bond hearing. The sheriff’s office said Smith is also wanted in Habersham County on a felony probation matter.
