HELEN, Ga. — A residential fire near Helen displaced one person Monday morning, authorities said.
The fire broke out shortly before noon Sept. 14 at a single-story home on Clayton Road. Everyone inside escaped safely before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters encountered visible smoke and an active fire in the garage that had spread into the attic. Crews attacked the flames from inside and outside the home while conducting ventilation operations to clear smoke and heat.
White County Fire Services and the Helen Fire Department responded, along with White County EMS. The county’s CERT Rehab Unit provided support to firefighters, while the White County Sheriff’s Office closed Clayton Road near the scene. Utility crews secured electrical service to the property.
Crews remained at the scene for several hours extinguishing hot spots and checking for hidden fire.
No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced resident.
The Helen Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
