CLEVELAND, Ga. — A White County woman died after a pickup truck overturned down an embankment along Helen Highway, trapping her and a passenger inside.
The single-vehicle crash occurred around 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, on State Route 75 in White County.
According to Georgia Department of Public Safety spokesperson Courtney Lund, 65-year-old Deborah Holland of Sautee Nacoochee was driving a Chevrolet pickup north when the truck ran off the road. It spun out, struck a driveway and became airborne before overturning down an embankment, Lund said.
White County firefighters and emergency medical crews climbed down the embankment, stabilized the vehicle and freed both occupants. Because of the steep terrain, crews used ropes to bring them up to the roadway, White County Public Safety spokesperson Bryce Barrett said.
Ambulances transported Holland and her passenger, 69-year-old Rickie Holland of Sautee Nacoochee, to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Deborah Holland was pronounced dead at the hospital. Rickie Holland sustained minor injuries.
