ELBERTON, Ga. — Residents near Elbert County Elementary School can expect a large emergency responder presence Tuesday afternoon as local agencies conduct a training exercise.
The emergency response drill is scheduled to begin at approximately 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at the elementary school, according to the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and other first responders will participate in the controlled exercise. The sheriff’s office emphasized that the activity is a planned drill and there is no actual emergency.
Roads surrounding the school will be closed during the exercise. Officials are asking motorists to avoid the area if possible and plan for potential delays.
The sheriff’s office said the training is intended to help first responders prepare to react quickly and effectively during an actual emergency involving a school.
“The safety of our students, faculty, and staff remains one of our highest priorities,” the sheriff’s office said in announcing the drill.
Officials thanked residents for their patience while emergency personnel conduct the training.
