Phenix City, Ala.— Phenix City Schools is proud to announce that eight of our campuses have been officially designated as 2026 Alabama Purple Star Schools by the Alabama State Board of Education. This prestigious honor recognizes our district’s unwavering commitment to supporting the unique needs of military-connected students and their families.
The resolution, adopted on April 9, 2026, commends a select group of 77 schools statewide for their dedication to military personnel, veterans, and their children. Within Phenix City, the following schools have earned this distinction:
● Central High School
● Phenix City Intermediate School
● Lakewood Primary School
● Phenix City Elementary School
● Ridgecrest Elementary School
● Sherwood Elementary School
● South Girard School
● Westview Elementary School
With over 40,000 children in Alabama belonging to military families, these students often face distinct challenges, including frequent moves and family separations during deployments. The Purple Star designation affirms that our schools provide the necessary resources and “GPS Mindset” to help these students reroute through academic and social transitions with confidence.
The designation is especially timely as April is recognized nationally as the Month of the Military Child. Phenix City Schools remains dedicated to ensuring that while military life may involve frequent changes, the quality of care and education our students receive remains constant.
