CLEVELAND, Ga. — The City of Cleveland is considering expanding its limits along US Highway 129 South and will hold two meetings to explain the proposal and gather public input.
Both meetings will take place at Cleveland City Hall, 55 Cantrell Road:
- Informational session: Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. City officials will explain the proposed boundaries, reasons for considering annexation, and the annexation process. Attendees may ask questions and offer comments.
- Public hearing: Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 6:30 p.m. Property owners and other interested residents may share their views and submit comments.
About the proposal
The proposed annexation area extends about 1.6 miles south from the current city limits to Westmoreland Road and includes properties along the highway in unincorporated White County. Officials say the goal is to align city boundaries with areas where Cleveland already provides utility services.
“No residential tracts or parcels that do not directly adjoin Highway 129 South have been considered for annexation, nor will they be included in any proposed annexation,” city spokesperson Bre Bardenwerper said in September.
If Cleveland moves forward, the annexation would require a local act of the Georgia General Assembly. Local lawmakers would introduce the bill during the legislative session beginning in January 2027, after both public meetings.
A map of the proposed annexation area and legal descriptions of the affected properties are available at the City Manager’s Office during regular business hours.
Anyone needing accommodations to participate in the meetings should contact the office in advance. For more information, email [email protected].
