Cleveland announces major annexation plan to expand city limits

CLEVELAND, Ga. — The City of Cleveland is considering expanding its footprint by annexing property to the south and north of its current boundaries.

During the Council’s regular meeting on Sept. 21, City Manager Kevin Harris announced that during the 2027 Georgia General Assembly, the city will be seeking approval to expand city limits.

Harris said they want to extend the city limits on Highway 129 south in their water and sewer service area to Westmoreland Road and on the north side, expand the city limits from the current location at Papa’s Pizza up to Hulsey Road, which would include the White County Government Complex.

Harris said they will begin sending out letters to property owners in the next 30 days to advise them. The White County Board of Commissioners had made a formal request to the city for the extension on the north side of the town.

The city will hold public hearings to gather public input on both proposals before approving anything.
