ALTO, Ga. — Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones will campaign in Habersham County today, June 10, just days before the June 16 Republican gubernatorial runoff.
Jones is scheduled to hold a rally at 1:30 p.m. at Anderson Carpet One Floor & Home in Alto as he makes a final push for votes ahead of next week’s election.
The visit is notable because Habersham County was one of the most closely divided counties in Georgia during the May 19 Republican primary. Jones and challenger Rick Jackson each received exactly 2,640 votes in Habersham County, resulting in a rare tie.
While Jones is making a campaign stop in the county, Jackson has not announced any campaign appearances in Habersham ahead of the runoff.
Jones, who earned President Donald Trump’s endorsement, and Jackson, a healthcare executive and political newcomer, advanced to the runoff after no candidate received the majority vote needed to secure the Republican nomination outright.
The winner of the June 16 runoff will become the Republican nominee for governor in November and face off against Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms.
