ATHENS, Ga. — A 78-year-old Athens woman has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash, according to Athens-Clarke County police.
The crash occurred around 2:45 p.m. Sept. 10 at Jefferson Road and Lakeland Drive.
Police said Helen Blackmon was driving a Chevrolet Equinox north on Jefferson Road when she attempted to turn left onto Lakeland Drive. The Equinox collided with a southbound Chevrolet Traverse.
Both drivers were taken to a hospital with injuries initially described as minor. Investigators learned Sept. 13 that Blackmon had died from her injuries.

Police said this was Athens-Clarke County’s ninth fatal crash of 2026.
