A death investigation is underway in Sumter County after a welfare check led to the discovery of two deceased individuals.
On Tuesday September 22, 2026, at approximately 8:30 in the morning the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office received a call to the area of Highway 118 in reference to a welfare check. Upon arriving on scene, first responders discovered a deceased female. Once the scene was secured, and upon further investigation a deceased male was also discovered near the residence.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, along with the Sumter County Coroner’s Office are investigating the scene as a death investigation. At this time there is no evidence to indicate foul play or suspicion. It is still an active investigation.
The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of all family members. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is extending heartfelt condolences to the families of both victims in this tragic event.
