A deadly shooting in Americus over the holiday weekend is under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Americus Police Department. The incident occurred on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Officers with the Americus Police Department responded to Bessie Mays Circle in reference to a person shot. After their arrival, officers learned that the victim had been transported to Phoebe Sumter Medical center in a private vehicle. The victim was treated by hospital personnel but succumbed to his injuries.
A suspect in the shooting has been identified by law enforcement, but that person’s identity was not revealed. The investigation is ongoing.
