We’re on the verge of a big cooldown across North and Central Georgia by Monday, but first another hot, potentially stormy day is likely for the region.
Heat Advisory
A Heat Advisory is in effect for most of the region outside the mountains, with the notable exception of those under the Greenville NWS office. Heat index values will be highest across Central Georgia, but values of up to 106º are possible across the entire Heat Advisory area.
Isolated Severe Storms
In addition, and partly thanks, to the heat some isolated severe storms will be possible. The Storm Prediction Center has most of North Georgia under a marginal (level 1/5) risk for severe storms. The main threat is damaging winds, with some hail also possible.
There will be numerous areas of storms across the eastern and southeastern US on Saturday as the region is in a northwest flow pattern around the same upper level ridge bringing the high temperatures. One, or more, of these clusters of storms could impact North Georgia. As we have seen numerous times this summer, these storm clusters are very difficult, if not impossible, to predict ahead of time as small variations in temperature, moisture and outflow can change their direction and strength.
We’ll be keeping a close eye for any of these clusters that may impact our region, and keep you updated on any watches that are issued on Saturday.
