Alto council to consider GDOT road mileage update

ALTO, Ga. — The Alto Town Council will consider updating the town’s certified road mileage with the Georgia Department of Transportation when it meets Aug. 11.

The council’s agenda includes a resolution authorizing an update of Alto’s official road mileage records with GDOT. The agency maintains certified mileage for public roads throughout Georgia, and those records are used in state and federal reporting as well as the distribution of some transportation funding. Updates help ensure local governments receive credit for roads they maintain and can affect funding calculations for programs such as the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant.

While the agenda does not specify what changes are being proposed, municipalities periodically update their certified road mileage to reflect newly accepted streets, annexations or other changes to their local road systems. GDOT uses the information in its annual certified public road mileage reports.

Council members also are scheduled to enter executive session to discuss a personnel matter under Georgia’s Open Meetings Act. Any action resulting from the executive session would be taken in open session.

The council also is expected to approve minutes from its July 14 meeting, during which members unanimously approved intergovernmental agreements with Habersham County related to the proposed Floating Homestead Local Option Sales Tax and animal control services, along with a policy governing virtual participation in council meetings.

Tuesday’s work session begins at 6 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. at Alto Town Hall.
