HARTWELL, Ga. — Investigators are working to determine what caused a house fire that claimed one person’s life in Hart County. Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion moments before flames engulfed the home, officials said.
According to Hart County Sheriff Chris Carroll, deputies and firefighters responded shortly after 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, to a reported structure fire with possible entrapment in the area of Mount Olivet Road near Rock Dust Road.
When deputies arrived, the fire was fully involved. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and, while searching the home, “located a deceased individual inside the structure,” Carroll said.
Investigators with the Hart County Sheriff’s Office are working alongside the Hart County Fire Department, the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Hart County Coroner’s Office to determine the cause of the fire.
The identity of the person who died has not been released pending positive identification.
