CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — The Habersham County Board of Education will meet Thursday, June 11, at 4:30 p.m. for a work session featuring updates on facilities, nutrition services, instructional materials, policy revisions and the fiscal year 2027 budget.
The meeting will be held at the school system’s central office.
Board members are expected to hear a facilities report from Assistant Superintendent David Leenman, Chief Financial Officer Staci Newsome and Denise Gunn, followed by a presentation on school nutrition services from Jo Ann Greenway.
Instructional materials, policy updates planned
Dr. Susan Davis will lead a discussion on high-quality instructional materials, an area of focus for school districts as they work to align classroom resources with state standards and improve student outcomes.
Leenman will also present proposed updates to board policies.
Budget process continues
Board members are also expected to receive an update on the FY27 budget from Newsome. The board approved the $131.7 million spending plan in May, with district officials projecting approximately $129.6 million in revenues and a planned use of fund balance to cover an estimated $2 million deficit.
While the budget has been adopted, the district must still complete its annual property tax process. According to the school system’s budget calendar, advertisement of the 2026 tax digest and five-year levy history is scheduled for July 1. The Habersham County Board of Commissioners is expected to set the school system’s millage rate on July 27.
The millage rate determines the amount of local property tax revenue collected for school operations and is finalized after completion of the tax digest.
