DEMOREST, Ga. — The City of Demorest issued a boil water advisory on April 17 after a water main break disrupted service in parts of the system.
City officials say the break may have caused outages or reduced water pressure in several areas, creating the potential for microbial contamination. The advisory was issued out of an abundance of caution to protect public health.
The affected areas include:
- Crane Mill Road from 2550 to King Road
- Mt. Zion Road west of Ga. 365
- Crane Mill Road intersection to the Hall County line
- Alonzo Wade Road
- King Road at Coon Creek
- Underwood Road
Residents in those areas are advised to use only boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking, food preparation, brushing teeth, making ice, preparing baby formula, and watering pets. Bring water to a rolling boil, let it boil for at least 1 minute, then let it cool before using.
Water may still be used for bathing, laundry, and dishwashing.
The advisory will remain in effect until water tests determine that the water is safe. Once the advisory is lifted, customers should flush all faucets for at least two minutes before using water for drinking or cooking.
