CLARKESVILLE — The Habersham County Board of Commissioners will return Monday night to two of its most closely watched issues — the proposed Unified Development Ordinance and the county’s fiscal year 2027 budget — during a scheduled work session and regular meeting at the courthouse.
The work session, set for 5 p.m., will focus on early budget discussions and continued review of the sweeping development code rewrite, which has drawn sustained public attention in recent weeks.
The meeting follows a packed town hall last week where residents spent more than two hours voicing concerns and suggestions about the proposed ordinance, which would overhaul how the county regulates growth, land use and development standards. Commissioners have emphasized the plan is still evolving and have delayed any final vote until a vacant seat on the board is filled after the May 19 special election.
The regular meeting begins at 6 p.m. and includes several proclamations and routine business items, along with contract approvals and board appointments.
Among the scheduled presentations are recognition of a longtime county employee’s retirement and proclamations for Economic Development Week and Georgia Small Business Appreciation Week.
The consent agenda includes approval of minutes from recent meetings, including the April 13 UDO town hall, as well as agreements related to fire services, emergency vehicle remounting and senior services funding.
Commissioners are also expected to consider joining the national opioid settlement with six remaining defendants, authorizing participation and related documentation.
New business items include a proposed contract for storm debris removal and consolidation, as well as approval of the county’s 2026 Local Road Assistance grant application and project list.
Public comment is scheduled prior to votes, including a listed speaker addressing the FY27 budget.
With budget planning beginning and the development ordinance still under revision, Monday’s discussions are expected to help shape the county’s direction on growth and spending in the months ahead.
