Lee County deputy shot, suspect killed in Loachapoka (Colin Scroggins CNAW)

A Lee County deputy is recovering after being shot in the arm in Loachapoka Wednesday April 15, 2026. Lee County deputies were met by gunfire after arriving at Lee Road 188 to serve a warrant for rape. The suspect who opened fire was killed by deputies at the scene.

According to Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones the warrant was issued for the suspect after a woman notified a school resource officer that she had been held against her will and sexually assaulted by the man described only as a Hispanic male. Hours later law enforcement arrived at the home.

The identity of the injured Lee County deputy has not been released. Though his injury is considered non-life threatening the deputy was airlifted to Birmingham for further treatment.

The State Bureau of Investigation is assigned to investigate the deadly shooting.
