Never mind pimento cheese or egg salad sandwiches this Master’s weekend; the Eggroll Truck was all the rage in Columbus. The “world famous” food truck rolled into town on Thursday for the first time and crowds gathered ever since. Hundreds of local foodies have waited patiently in line to sample the specialized eggrolls.
Sequoia is stationed at Fort Benning, and she told Now Georgia she heard about the food truck on Facebook. “It’s something to do. I think we were just hanging out, and we wanted to go do something and we got here a little early, so we didn’t have to wait as long as everyone else. There was a lot of hype I guess to it, so we just wanted to come see what they are all about.”
The Eggroll Truck boasts 283K followers on Facebook which is where many local customers first got wind of it. All of them willing to wait more than an hour in some cases to place an order. “Well, I was hoping it wouldn’t be that long when I got here but I saw the posts on Facebook and the food looked really good, so I had to come try it out,” Olivia Wolfe said.
The food truck was situated in the Lowes parking lot on Veterans Parkway surrounded by several other options to eat in North Columbus. One restaurant worker next door said she had to come see what all the hype was about. “I just gotta try it,” Jasmine Matthews said. “I’ve got to try it. I’ve been hearing so much and then my coworker came over. We were opening the store, and he had some and I was like I gotta go over here.”
Others flocked to experience it because it wasn’t your typical food truck fare. “I’m not like a wait in line type of person, but these eggrolls are different, so I wanted to come out here and try it. You don’t get much of this. It’s like regular food around here but since it’s eggrolls, I just want to try it,” Cameron said.
“I heard the food was good…if the food is good, I’m gonna wait,” Rotha Haynes said. And so they waited by the hundreds until the food truck gave last call Sunday afternoon. It is unclear when or if the Eggroll Truck tour will stop in Columbus again.
