Man charged with shooting into Carnesville home during domestic incident

CARNESVILLE, Ga. — A suspect is in custody after shooting into a home during a domestic violence incident Tuesday afternoon in Franklin County.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 2:28 p.m. on April 8 to Franklin Hills Drive in Carnesville. During their investigation, they discovered that multiple shots had been fired into a residence.

Investigators said witnesses and neighbors helped them quickly identify a suspect vehicle belonging to Jason LaPoint. Within 20 minutes, LaPoint was located and taken into custody by deputies with the Banks County Sheriff’s Office.

Franklin County Sheriff Scott Andrews thanked those who helped with the investigation.

“I would like to thank the neighbors and witnesses, first and foremost, for helping us to quickly apprehend this subject. It’s this sense of community that makes our county so special,” he wrote in a press release.

He also thanked deputies from both Franklin and Banks counties for their rapid response.
