
WINDER, Ga. — A 67-year-old man died Monday after being struck by a train in Barrow County, authorities said.
The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:59 a.m. March 16 to a report of a train versus pedestrian incident near the intersection of Atlanta Highway Northwest and Cedar Creek Road.
According to the sheriff’s office, the call was received from CSX. The train’s conductor reported seeing a man lying on the railroad tracks as the train approached. Despite attempts to stop, the train was unable to slow in time and struck the man.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as Johnny Ray Gooch, 67.
Barrow County Sheriff’s Office deputies and emergency personnel responded to the scene.
Authorities say the incident remains under investigation. No additional information has been released.
