10 holiday traffic deaths reported in Georgia

The Georgia Department of Public Safety reports ten people died on Georgia’s roads over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. At least two of those deaths occurred in Northeast Georgia.

One person died days after a crash on Nov. 26 on Big A Road/Hwy. 17 at Oak Valley Road in Stephens County. The State Patrol has not released any names.

In Lumpkin County, one man was killed in a head-on collision Nov. 28 on Hwy. 115 in Murrayville. Lumpkin County Coroner Mark Cox identified the deceased driver as 32-year-old Christopher Parker of Dahlonega.

State troopers investigated other fatal crashes in Newton and McIntosh counties, as well as in Albany. DPS did not offer details of the other crashes worked by outside agencies.

Holiday traffic

The holiday traffic period began at 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30. During the 102-hour holiday period, state troopers investigated 349 crashes, resulting in 168 injuries. Thirty-six of those crashes involved DUIs, DPS said.

Last Thanksgiving, the Georgia State Patrol investigated 684 crashes, 349 injuries, and 17 deaths.
