On November 26, at approximately 8:20 AM, while Detention Officers with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were in the process of the morning inmate head count and breakfast distribution, a female inmate was found unresponsive in her bed.
The officers immediately notified additional personnel along with the Jail medical staff who began lifesaving measures. Fire and EMS arrived on scene and took over care. The inmate was transported to Well Star West Georgia Medical Center and died a short time later.
As standard procedure the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was notified and will be conducted and independent investigation. The inmate is identified as Cherika Teague, 44 years old, of LaGrange.
