TOCCOA, Ga. — A Toccoa man has been arrested following what police described as an intensive investigation into a reported sexual assault involving a minor.

The Toccoa Police Department said the case was reported March 25, prompting investigators to immediately begin gathering evidence and working to identify a suspect. Authorities obtained warrants for Anthony David Shedd, 28, of Toccoa, in connection with the case.

Members of the department’s Special Operations Unit executed a search warrant at Shedd’s residence without incident and took him into custody, police said. Investigators also recovered additional evidence believed to be connected to the case.

Shedd is charged with aggravated child molestation and other related sexual assault offenses.

“These cases are deeply concerning and demand immediate and thorough action,” Toccoa Police Chief Bruce Carlisle said in a statement. “Our investigators worked relentlessly to build this case and ensure this individual was taken off the streets. Protecting children and holding offenders accountable will always remain a top priority for this department.”

The Toccoa Police Department credited the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigations Unit for assisting in the investigation.

Due to the nature of the case, authorities said no identifying information about the victim will be released.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
