Every week, standout performances from Northeast Georgia athletes and teams take center stage — and this week’s honorees showed grit, dominance, and consistency across multiple sports.
This week, Now Habersham and BLITZ Sports recognize Rabun County’s gritty football win, Jefferson’s powerhouse softball sweep, Habersham Central’s rising volleyball team, and cross-country triumphs for Lumpkin County and White County.
Football – Rabun County Wildcats
The Wildcats produced another hard-fought road win. This time, unlike last (49-42 at Dalton), it was a defensive battle of 14-3. Rabun County, now ranked #5 in the state, is proving it can win in various ways. Reid Giles and Ty Truelove were the key culprits offensively in this one.
Softball – Jefferson Lady Dragons
The #1-ranked Lady Dragons take that top spot in the state polls. They won all three games they played last week, beating Monroe Area 7-6 in a top-5 matchup, Hart County 12-3, and East Hall 10-0. Jefferson has won six in a row and stands at 15-1 overall.
Volleyball – Habersham Central Lady Raiders
Habersham has won six in a row – and went 4-0 last week with wins against Franklin County, West Hall, Alcovy, and Apalachee. The Lady Raiders are soaring with a 17-3 record and a perfect mark in the region of 2-0. This is a vastly underrated team, still trying to get attention in the state polls as just outside the top-10.
Boys XC – Lumpkin County Indians
The Indians won the North GA Invitational, and Witt Windham took the top spot as well. Evan Good was 11th, and Paulo Ramirez 15th.
Girls XC – White County Lady Warriors
The Lady Warriors won the North GA Invitational, a huge meet. Several runners posted PRs, and Carly Black (1st) and Julie Black (3rd) had incredible performances. Dominant effort for these girls.
